. . . Having thought for years about putting a door through the kitchen to the brick built shed on the back of the house, making it into a utility/garden room, I finally got a quote from a couple of local builders. The first came round while I was at work, looked through the windows and sent me the vaguest of quotes… then Gary from AMG came round and took time measuring, asking questions, offering interesting and rational ideas that I wouldn't have thought of velux windows, underfloor heating, nothing outlandish, but things that made a big difference!
AMG's quote was very reasonable, following which I had an epiphany and decided to go to the whole hog and have the entire wall knocked though to make a really decent amount of space.
The result is exactly as I imagined. Everyone has said how terrific it is and we can't get used to the extra space, light and practicality of it and how good the quality of workmanship.
I certainly agree with the other testimonials about guys being friendly, tidy and professional and I'd like to thank them all for the hard work.
With the scary business of 'cowboy programmes' it was a worry to have building work starting, but from the start of ours I knew we were onto a winner.
I'd definitely recommend AMG to anyone who asked – in fact I already have . . . ![]()
. . . Liz and it both wish to express on paper our joint feelings regarding the recent building work carried out on our property.
From the start in early January we found the quality of work faultless and a high standard was maintained throughout the build. Everything that was specified on the paper work was carried out to our joint satisfaction, and we remain extremely satisfied and pleased with all aspects of the work.
We found all of the people employed to be polite, courteous, tidy and extremely easy to get on with. Their time keeping was good and they were a pleasure to have around over the last 12 weeks of the build. Nothing was too much trouble for them when it came to fitting in with our routine. We were impressed with their willingness to work weekends in order to ensure that the logistics of the project were maintained.
We have of course to mention the fitted bookcases that Jim made. All who have been to visit us have passed glowing praise on his craftsmanship the wet room of course is in a league of it's own.
As you are aware, we have encountered problems with small building projects in the past, and we were apprehensive with regards to embarking on such a big build as your firm carried out. From the above it goes without saying that all our fears were dispelled, and we have no hesitation in recommending AMG to future prospective clients.
Thank you again for an excellent build . . . ![]()
. . . Working with you has certainly helped to dispel some of our preconceptions about builders, not once did you shake your head whilst sucking air through your teeth! Here are some of the preconceived ideas we had and how you changed our thinking:
Stereotype: 'All builders are cowboys. They're not interested in quality, they merely want to get the job done as cheaply as possible'.
We thought we had high standards, we found yours to be even higher. Your regular inspections were always very thorough and it quickly became clear we didn't need to worry about the quality; if it passed your inspection we knew the quality was spot on.
Stereotype: 'Builders always make a mountain out of a molehill'.
You immediately put our minds at rest about anything we thought might be a problem. You've clearly got a lot of experience. You also employ a very capable team and have complete trust in their abilities, they didn't let you down.
Stereotype: 'Builders don't care about the mess they make'.
Your team were very careful to keep things clean and tidy every day. You have them well drilled and throughout the build they took great care to cause as little disruption as possible. This includes their manor, we found your whole team courteous, conscientious and highly skilled displaying pride in the job they do.
Stereotype: 'Once the contract is signed you can never get hold of your builder'.
Quite the opposite, there was never an instance where we couldn't contact you. We 'pestered' you on a regular basis with extra requests, and you answered your phone straight away in every case. If you felt the need you always paid us an extra visit in person to discuss further, on top of your regular site visits . . . ![]()
. . . Gary's team work full-time for AMG - he does not use sub-contractors - so the work is always consistent. Although, we did not have many dealings with them, being out of the country for the majority of the work, whenever we did meet them, they were unfailingly polite. Nothing was too much trouble. They had to work in a situation which was quite difficult.
As we were the first in the block to completely gut our flat, there was obviously going to be noise and inconvenience caused to the neighbours. The team managed to negotiate and deal with these problems quite diplomatically.
Overall, we have been truly delighted with the quality and standard of the work carried out and would not hesitate to recommend AMG to anyone who is looking for a building firm that can deliver what is promised

. . . We engaged AMG Building Services Ltd. in October 2004 to build a two story rear extension to our property. Their work was of excellent quality, with care and consideration taken at every stage. No problem was too big or too small and all were resolved quickly and to our satisfaction.
I can confidently recommend AMG as a solid and reliable building company, and would not hesitate to use them in the future . . . ![]()
. . . I thought I'd take this opportunity to write and thank you officially for our beautiful house, and all the hard work that you and your lads put into it over the 6 months you were here.
From the outset I was pleased with the professionalism with which you run your business, which also translates into the very high standards that you and your crew set yourselves. All the work in our 2 storey side extension, loft conversion and kitchen and bathroom refurbishment was done to a very high standard. The Punctuality, uniforms, portaloo, boarded drive etc and the general tidiness of the Site impressed us and our neighbours.
What I hadn't thought about beforehand was how important it was going to be to get on well with the people who'd be working in our house - but AMG proved to be a great choice as your lads are a genuinely lovely bunch; friendly, polite, and tidy with a great sense of camaraderie in the team. They were really nice to the kids - Dan still misses his football chats with the lads. Your boys even fed the cat occasionally, what more can I say about being helpful!
Some days on site were rather crowded (!!) but everyone got on very well and there was much joking and sharing of tools and advice. I heard some of the lads commend that AMG are the best company to work with in this regard.
In future I would choose AMG from earlier in the project, i.e. I wish I'd used you for the design and planning stage. Our architect was definitely the 'weakest link', but you coped well with the problems that his poor plans created. I'd never been through a project like this before and would have stumbled at many a hurdle without the patient and ever present advice of Gary.
I'd be happy to speak on the phone with anyone considering using AMG, or show people round our lovely 'new' house, so feel free to pass on my number. And when Russell's earned some more money, I might speak to you
about the porch! Kind regards and best wishes for deserved success in '09 . . . ![]()
. . . Gary Humphrey and his team have recently completed a house extension for us, which included an extended and completely refurbished kitchen, a large conservatory, an additional en-suite shower room and the refurbishment of our family bathroom.
At all times, we have been completely satisfied with the standard of workmanship, the way the work has been carried out and the friendliness and helpfulness of the workforce that Gary employs.
We are absolutely delighted with the finished project and everyone who has seen the work has been very impressed and complimentary.
We would have no hesitation in using AMG again or in recommending them to prospective new clients . . . ![]()
. . . We'd just like to say thank you to your team for such a fantastic job in extending our kitchen / utility area. We are delighted with the design and fixtures, it is a quality end result.
We would like to point to how we were particularly impressed with Jim and Lewis of your team, who were really easy to have around the house whilst the work was taking place, always cheerful and obliging. Also, we have been very impressed with your post completion customer care, you have kept to your word and dealt quickly and professionally with minor snags which have arisen. We will contact you again for future building work.
Please feel free to use this as a reference, and we are happy to be contacted for a telephone reference if needed . . . ![]()
. . . We have had a few days over Christmas and New Year to reflect on, and hear the comments of family and friends, on the dormer extension you have just completed for us.
There has been nothing but unreserved praise for the quality of the finished work - many said it looks as though it was built as part of the original house. Maureen and I are delighted not just with the finished product but for the care and attention to detail that has been apparent in every step of the way. You and your team have gone out of the way to make sure that our requirements have been met and adapted and responded to our changes to the requirement. I have no hesitation in offering an unreserved recommendation of AMG as a building company which sets out to meet its clients expectations and succeeds in that endeavour.
Many thanks and please feel free to use us, and our extension, as a reference for future business . . . ![]()
. . . Jan and I are delighted with the work your company carried out on our Shower room / Utility room and will be more than willing to recommend your company to anyone who is looking for a first class building company.
We found your team to be extremely punctual and highly professional at all times apart from which they kept our site neat and tidy (as my wife hates mess) when ever they finished for the day.
I would say that from the time we first met you, where I was impressed with your knowledge and professionalism; your high standards permeate down through your team of tradesmen who were a pleasure to have working in one's home.
Once again thank you for a job well done and will not hesitate to call you when we require other work to be carried out. Our very best regards . . . ![]()
. . . Now that our building work is complete we wanted to write to you and express our thanks and appreciation for all of your hard work and effort over the course of the project. From start to finish your entire team were a pleasure to work with and whilst it was a challenge at the beginning to have the entire house washed, dressed and ready by the time you all arrived on site, we actually became used to having you here and little Henry (aka Slugsy) is without doubt already missing all of the attention that he would get.
Jane and I had a dream house in mind, which at times we have to admit seemed a long way away, but now that we are complete with decorating and furnishing it is exactly what we had imagined, and more. Your quality of work throughout and the attention to detail at every corner is second to none.
You should also take pleasure and comfort in the fact that, without exception, your team were always courteous, polite and very conscious of any inconvenience that we might have felt. They always forewarned us what was going on, and in some cases I even managed to brush up on some of my own DIY techniques by keeping a close watch on their handy-work.
We shouldn't forget to also mention and thank Tracy, who behind the scenes was able to keep us all honest and up to date with the invoices and paperwork. Thanks again Gary, good luck with all of your new projects and please feel free to swing buy for a cuppa when you are passing at any stage in the future . . . ![]()
